Renovations

Respecting an old building doesn’t mean leaving it untouched. It means understanding it before deciding what comes next.”

Making better use of what’s already there

Renovating an existing building can be more complex than starting from scratch, sure. There’s an existing structure to understand, services to work around, planning and heritage requirements to navigate and, occasionally, there’s a nice surprise waiting behind the walls.

But these challenges are why we love it.

We work across a wide range of renovations and extensions, first understanding what currently works and what doesn’t, and then determining how the building needs to function into the future.

From there, we can help make better use of the available space, improve natural light and flow, connect internal and external areas and create a considered relationship between the original building and anything new.

Not sure what’s possible or what it might cost? Our free design consultation gives you an initial concept and high-level budget feasibility before you commit to the full architectural process.

Why S.?

Before we begin designing, we take the time to understand the building, its condition and the constraints that may affect the project.

Considered approach to old and new

Sometimes the right decision is to retain something. Sometimes it needs to go. We preserve the elements that contribute to the building’s character, while making practical changes to improve how it functions.

Practical advice from the start

Existing buildings often come with a few unknowns, so early investigation and realistic planning are important. We’ll help you work through priorities, budget, approvals, staging and consultant requirements before progressing too far into the design. If something is likely to cause an issue later, we’d prefer to address it early.

Support through delivery

Our team will provide support from the first site visit right through to approvals, appointing the best team for construction, to handover – helping ensure the original design intent is carried through to your finished home.
